Hong Kong
January 10th, 2009
I was really only here for one full day since I got in late on my first day and left early morning on my flight out, but I was able to see a few cool things. Including the biggest daily light and sound show, according the Guinness World Records, the 360 view cable car to one of the islands with a big Buddha and monastery at the top, the Victoria Peak Tram on Hong Kong Island, and I had a few hours to kill before the light show so I went to see the Hong Kong ‘Space Museum.’ I didn’t like it that much, seeing as it had a lot of interactive stuff that was geared towards kids in elementary school.
One thing that was great was the internet was crazy fast, I think I was able to upload 1000 or so of the pictures that I hadn’t had a chance to upload. To give an idea, I am somewhere around picture 5600 on my camera and for a long time I only had uploaded images through 1000.
Hong Kong also had the smallest room I’ve had, it was like a prison cell, only about 18 inches between the bed and the wall on one side, and 4 feet off the end of the bed before the shower/toilet/sink combo room which was about 3×6 feet. The cell was surprisingly nice though, it had a rain shower, wall mounted flat screen TV, super hot water, AC, a comfy bed and a really nice down comforter. But I think if I had to live in a room like that for a longer time though I might go crazy, or I would never spend any time there other than to sleep and shower.
Other things of note: the fog ruined my view! Very clean, modern city; the metro was probably the best I’ve seen, the map would light up indicating where you are and other lines would blink when the train was at a transfer station; lots and lots and lots of people.
